Family Photo Session

We think the best photos are taken where a family feels most comfortable!  Whether it's in our studio, at your house or at a park, the choice is all yours!  A studio setting is often chosen if the weather isn't good or if you have a larger group and don't have the space in your house to accommodate.  If you're family enjoys outdoor activities, we'd love to capture you at a park or outdoor setting too!

Before the Session

• Important - plan your clothing choices early!  Scroll down to see detailed tips to help you!

• Plan on spending about 1 hour total for your photo shoot.

• We typically start with full group shots, then move onto smaller groups such as Mom with daughter(s), Mom & Dad together, etc...  We try and shoot as many different poses and scenes as we can during the session to give you variety and choices :>

• Don't be stressed about your children!  We understand that children sometimes aren't so thrilled about being photographed.  We have plenty of time for the kiddos to take breaks and we'll make it work!

• For outdoor sessions we'll usually schedule the shoot about 1.5 hours before sunset to provide the most appealing lighting for your photos.

After the Session

• Within approx. 2 weeks I’ll process your photos and make them look their best! You’ll receive a link to view and download your photos from your online gallery.

• I typically deliver 10-15 finished photos, but often times ever more!

• If you’re interested in displaying any of your newly captured memories on your walls at home, I would love to design groupings for you and then show you a “virtual reality” view of what they would look like in your actual space! Give me a shout if you’re interested in any printed or framed products for you house!

Tips for a Great Photo Session

The single biggest impact on how your photos will turn out is clothing choice.

• Solid colors or very light patterns are best.   Avoid stripes, polka-dots, flowers, bold patterns and team logos - they distract from your lovely faces!

• Muted tones or pastels look great - avoid bold colors such as bright yellow, red or orange.  Good colors are browns, dark tans, pastel blues or solid white or black shirts w/ jeans.

• Choose 1-3 coordinating colors and have everyone stay within those colors.  Not everyone has to match or be exactly the same color, just similar shades within the 1-3 chosen color pallet.  Examples of coordinating colors - dark gray + yellow, dark brown + burnt orange, khaki + navy blue, khaki + white or black, etc....

• If you're getting your haircut, try to have it cut at least 1-2 weeks before the session - hair tends to look better after a little time.

• For single family groups (5 or less) - feel free to bring both a more formal outfit and something casual - we'll start out with the formal clothing and change midway through.  Extended family shoots (6 or more people) will likely all be shot in a single outfit.

• If you or your family/children have a favorite activity or item such as a book, toy, game, instruments, etc....bring it with you!  Fun interaction among family members make great memories for the camera!
